Department Parks and Recreation Opening Date 05/20/2025 Closing Date 5/30/2025 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Description This position is responsible for managing the volunteer program at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, playing a vital role in connecting people with nature through service. You'll lead every aspect of the volunteer experience—from recruiting and interviewing to training, supervising, and retaining a passionate team of volunteers who support the preserve’s daily operations. If you enjoy working with people and making a tangible impact in a beautiful natural setting, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to do both. Duties and Responsibilities Organize and host volunteer appreciation events that recognize and energize our team. Facilitate engaging training sessions to ensure volunteers are well-prepared and confident in their roles. Collaborate with lead volunteers to coordinate schedules and maintain seamless operations. Create and distribute a bi-monthly newsletter that keeps volunteers informed, inspired, and connected. Knowledge of Southwest Florida’s ecosystems and natural history, including the ability to identify native and invasive plant and animal species. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills to manage a variety of responsibilities efficiently. A hands-on, team-oriented mindset—willing to pitch in with daily facility maintenance such as vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning, and trash collection as needed. May perform other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, Licensing Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and six months of public relations, environmental sciences, parks and recreation, or closely related experience. Experience working with Volunteers/Interns is a plus. CPR and First Aid training is required within six months of hire, or employment may end. Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required. Supplemental Information Proficient in dealing with the public promptly, professionally, and courteously. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with public speaking. Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build positive and effective working relationships with staff, vendors, county personnel, and the public. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Work Schedule: Flexible work schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
